Hi there, web-o-verse!
I’m Mags, and I’m pretty imperfect – and I’m learning to live graciously in my imperfection.
Writing has always been one of my passions – and one that I really don’t make a priority anymore. So, I’ve decided to jump back online and share my imperfect insights.
What is this blog about?
This isn’t a parenting blog. But, I am a mother, so there will be posts about my kids.
This isn’t a crafting blog. I do love a good project, so there will be posts about that too.
This isn’t a cooking blog. Julia Child is my patron saint, so there will be lots of stuff about food. Food, food and more food. Food is my favorite. Food makes me happy.
This isn’t a photography blog. I take more pictures than any one person should, so they’ll surface here every now and then. A lot.
This isn’t a pet blog. But, I do have the most amazing yellow lab ever. She’ll pop in every once in a while.
The cast of characters
Mags. That’s me. I’m a wife, mom, chauffeur, personal chef, doctor, vet, taxi driver, hair stylist, laundress, personal assistant, boo-boo kisser, bedtime snuggler, short-order cook, housekeeper, dog walker, cat petter, tennis player …. I’m a procrastinator – but we’ll get to that later. I am full of good ideas yet seldom follow through. I’m great at starting a
project but horrible at completing it. I’ve been paralyzed by perfection for way too long, and I’m learning to embrace the imperfections!
Pablo. The husband. He’s awesome. Of course he is, or I wouldn’t have married him! He works in a stressful corporate job in the oil biz (as does everyone here in Houston!). He is an amazing father and partner in this crazy life. He overlooks my eye rolling and listens to way too much of my venting. He loves to ride bikes with our family and shoot hoops in the driveway. He’d rather be wandering aimlessly outside than sitting in front of the TV. In all his spare time, he makes puppets. I’m sure we’ll see some here!
Cheech. The older one. He’s 10. He’s amazing. He got the best – and worst – of our genes. He’s smart, funny, creative, compassionate, inquisitive, too hard on himself and full of useless knowledge.
Rocky. The younger one. He’s 7. He’s like no other. Really. He got all the other genes that were left over. He’s smart, funny, musically superior to me, intense, caring, dramatic, free-spirited, fearless.
Jos. The dog. My baby girl. She’s a 2-year-old yellow lab who joined our family thanks to a wonderful rescue group. She’s my partner in crime, my shadow. She’s the most beloved pet in the elementary drop-off line, and she wants to chase squirrels. Even in her sleep.
Maxie Lou. The cat. My first baby girl. She just turned 15 and she’s the sweetest, tiniest thing. She spends her day lounging in the sunshine by the pool. It’s a tough life.
Casa de Chaos. Where we live. Where we love. Where we play. Where we create. Where we attempt to make sense of this crazy life. Oh, it’s in a Houston suburb. (Yep, and I even drive a minivan.)
Nanny. My mom. My rock. My go-to when I need someone to tell it like it is. My go-to when I need someone just to hear me cry.
MIL. My mother-in-law. My partner on the tennis courts, my partner in crime and my partner in this crazy life. Sometimes I wonder if I married Pablo just for his mom!
FIL. My father-in-law. A most very patient, doting grandfather. Because of him, Pablo is a wonderful husband and father. He tells off-color jokes, pours a stiff G&T and laughs so hard that his whole body laughs along with him.
Papa. Mr. Fix It. Mr. Pop the Hood and I’ll Take a Look. Mr. Toddy – and Margarita – and even champagne on occasion. Mr. Prankster. Mr. Great. He also happens to be married to my mom, which makes me pretty darn lucky!
